Dickens Cafe

Tonight we had a chance to go out to Dickens Café up in Richmond Hill to have a nice dinner.  Dickens Café is a slightly moderate to upper class Western style type restaurant where they serve a lot of pastas, steaks, salmon and have a variety of Western style appetizers.

I went there with a friend of mine and we got there shortly after 6:00.  The restaurant was pretty quiet at that time so we were able to sit down immediately after we got in.  Both of us passed on the appetizers but my friend ordered the 8oz Angus Steak with Spaghetti while I ordered the Atlantic Salmon Fillet.

Atlantic Salmon on White Rice
8oz Angus Steak with Spaghetti
We were served a complimentary bread and butter combo.  The entrees arrived approximately 10 minutes later and both meals arrived at the same time.  My friend wanted his steak to be about 70% well done.  He said that the chef was pretty much bang on with his steak.

My Atlantic Salmon fillet was pretty good.  The salmon was fried pretty well with the skin pretty crispy on the outside and very juicy and soft on the inside.  It also came with rice and its own special sauce which tasted like a lemony buttered type sauce.  Now I have to admit one thing.  I have eaten this dish at other restaurants before and my only beef tonight is that eating salmon with plain white rice is pretty dry.  Personally to make this dish really good with rice, they should try to have the salmon mixed with something like jasmine rice, flavored rice or even something like Uncle Ben rice.  It can give it that extra bit of zing which will really bring out the entire flavor of this dish.  The dish however did come with beans and carrots.

Lemon Slice Cake
After the meals, they served us with a complementary slice of lemon cake.  It was a nice end to a wonderful evening.  There was plenty of free parking outside the restaurant.  By the time we left the restaurant it was about half full.  The total cost of the meal was about fifty dollars with tax and tip included.  If they could somehow make the white rice a little more extraordinary then it could certainly make my dish a more enjoyable one and certainly get an extra half point.  As it stands, I give tonight a 4 out of 5.
