Asian Legend

The other night we decided to go out to Asian Legend in Scarborough for some good Chinese food.  There are a few of these restaurants in the city of Toronto but this one is close to my place so we decided to hit this one tonight.

We got there around nine in the evening and were greeted by the waitress who told us we had half an hour to order before the kitchen closes. We sat down and quickly ordered a little bit of everything.  We ordered pork dumplings, snow pea shoots with garlic sauce, mince meat in tofu also known as Mah Po Tofu and Shrimp Noodles.

The food came out flying.  We also a few rum and cokes for this evening as we were there for a mini celebration.  The snow pea shoots arrived first and were very delicious.  The pea shoots were soft and not too chewy.  Sometimes you can get these really old stalks, usually when it’s not in season, and the snow pea shoots become very chewy and difficult to swallow.  Tonight however, they were soft and perfectly seasoned.

Next came the noodles.  Not too dry and not too moist, this shrimp noodle was a good stomach filler.  It was actually very tasty and not too salty.  Some noodles tend to be heavy on the MSG however these noodles tonight were perfect in taste.

The Mah Po Tofu came next and for those who don’t know about this dish, it’s usually pretty spicy and it’s usually eaten with rice to ease some of the spiciness. For reasons unknown, the three of us decided to eat this dish as is with no rice on top and truthfully it was pretty good but yes pretty spicy.  I only ate a small amount of it however one of my friends there was able to douse it all on her own.  Kudos to her because it was actually quite spicy.

Pork Dumplings
The last thing that came out were the pork dumplings and they were very delicious.  For every Asian Legend restaurant, I think this is their signature dish.  They only come in 6 per servings.  The insides of these dumplings are mostly pork however they have a bit of juice in them which makes them very tasty.  When one is consuming this, one has to make sure that they are careful not to burn themselves because it can be super hot.  Otherwise enjoy this wonderful meal.  We enjoyed it so much we actually ordered 2 more just as they were announcing last call in the kitchen.

Overall it was a pleasant night.  Although we could have enjoyed it more had we shown up earlier, they were extremely courteous and allowed us to stay past closing.  Plenty of free parking and spacious on the side, it is a great place for a casual dinner or for bringing a date.  Overall I give it a 4.5 out of 5.
